Privacy policy
SayWire is built so we cannot read what you say. This policy covers the SayWire apps for iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac, and this website. It explains the little data that is processed and why.
Who is responsible
SayWire is made by Jostein Dyrseth, Presthaugvegen 2 C, 5521 Haugesund, Norway, who is the data controller. Contact: josdyr@gmail.com.
What we don't do
- No sign-up and no user accounts.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking in the apps or on this website, and no cookies.
- We don't sell or share your data, and we can't read your dictation.
Your dictation
Speech is turned into text by Apple dictation, governed by Apple's own privacy policy. SayWire only receives the finished text. When your devices share a Wi-Fi network, the text goes directly from your iPhone or Apple Watch to your Mac, encrypted. When they can't reach each other, the text passes through our cloud relay, end-to-end encrypted with a key that only your paired devices hold. Neither we nor our hosting provider can read it. The relay deletes each message as soon as your Mac receives it, or after at most five minutes.
Notes
Each dictation is saved as a note on your device, so nothing is lost if your Mac is closed. If iCloud is on, notes, folders and tags sync between your iPhone and Mac through your own private iCloud database, and the note text is encrypted by Apple. We have no access to your iCloud data. Deleted notes stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days and are then removed. You can export or delete notes at any time.
Data our relay processes
To deliver messages, the relay briefly handles your IP address, a random pairing identifier derived from your devices' key, message timestamps and the encrypted message. If you allow notifications, it stores a push token for your iPhone and Watch so your Mac can ask your Watch to start dictation; tokens expire after 30 days without use and are removed when you reset pairing. Notifications never contain your dictation. We don't build profiles or link any of this to your identity. The relay runs on Cloudflare, which acts as our data processor under its data processing agreement and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
On your Mac
The Mac app keeps your notes and recent dictation locally. It can offer a local interface on your Mac only (for the Raycast extension), protected by a token you control; it is not reachable from other devices.
Permissions
The iPhone app uses the camera only to scan the pairing code on your Mac. The Mac app asks for Accessibility permission only if you turn on pasting into the active app, so it can press Command V for you, and for Local Network access to receive text over your Wi-Fi. Dictation uses Apple's system keyboard and text input.
Purchases
The free trial and SayWire Pro are handled by Apple through the App Store and follow your Apple Account. We never see your payment details or your name.
Website and waitlist
This website has no analytics and sets no cookies. If you join the waitlist, we store your email address only to tell you when SayWire launches, then delete it. Our host, Cloudflare, processes standard server logs such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Children
SayWire is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.
Legal basis and your rights
We process the minimal data above to provide the service you asked for (GDPR article 6(1)(b)). You can ask for access, correction or deletion by writing to josdyr@gmail.com. You can also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet.

If this policy changes, we update the date above and describe important changes on this page.
