Why Apple Watch screenshots and dictation don't reach your Mac (and what does)
Short answer: Apple Watch is not part of Universal Clipboard, and it cannot act as a microphone for your Mac. Watch screenshots go to Photos on your iPhone and reach your Mac only through iCloud Photos. Dictated text stays on the Watch unless an app like SayWire sends it to your Mac.
Screenshots
- Turn them on first: on your Watch, open Settings, General, Screenshots and enable Enable Screenshots. They are off by default.
- Press the side button and the Digital Crown together. The screen flashes.
- The screenshot is saved to Photos on your iPhone, not on the Watch.
- To see it on your Mac, turn on iCloud Photos on both iPhone and Mac. It usually appears in Photos on the Mac within a minute. For a one-off, AirDrop it from your iPhone.
Dictation
Dictating on the Watch types only into the Watch app you are using. There is no built-in way to send that text to the Mac instantly:
- Universal Clipboard covers iPhone, iPad and Mac, but not Apple Watch.
- The Mac’s Sound settings cannot use Apple Watch as a microphone.
- Notes and Messages sync the text eventually, but you still copy and paste by hand.
What does work
